[Talon]
Long ago, dragons were hunted to near extinction by the Order of St. George, a legendary society of dragon slayers. Hiding in human form and growing their numbers in secret, the dragons of Talon have become strong and cunning, and they’re positioned to take over the world with humans none the wiser.
Ember and Dante Hill are the only sister and brother known to dragonkind. Trained to infiltrate society, Ember wants to live the teen experience and enjoy a summer of freedom before taking her destined place in Talon. But destiny is a matter of perspective, and a rogue dragon will soon challenge everything Ember has been taught. As Ember struggles to accept her future, she and her brother are hunted by the Order of St. George.
Soldier Garret Xavier Sebastian has a mission to seek and destroy all dragons, and Talon’s newest recruits in particular. But he cannot kill unless he is certain he has found his prey: and nothing is certain about Ember Hill. Faced with Ember’s bravery, confidence and all-too-human desires, Garret begins to question everything that the Order has ingrained in him: and what he might be willing to give up to find the truth about dragons.
[Rogue]
Ember Hill left the dragon organization Talon to take her chances with rebel dragon Cobalt and his crew of rogues. But Ember can’t forget the sacrifice made for her by the human boy who could have killed her—Garret Xavier Sebastian, a soldier of the dragonslaying Order of St. George, the boy who saved her from a Talon assassin, knowing that by doing so, he’d signed his own death warrant.
Determined to save Garret from execution, Ember must convince Cobalt to help her break into the Order’s headquarters. With assassins after them and Ember’s own brother helping Talon with the hunt, the rogues find an unexpected ally in Garret and a new perspective on the underground battle between Talon and St. George.
A reckoning is brewing and the secrets hidden by both sides are shocking and deadly. Soon Ember must decide: Should she retreat to fight another day…or start an all-out war?
Who am I to refuse reading another sure-to-be-good book from one of my auto-buy favorite author Julie Kagawa???
Julie Kagawa + dragons = uhm, YES PLEASE.
I’m starting to think I’m getting a little bit older, when I read a book and can say ‘the story is good..’ BUT ‘a little bit too young-ish for me’. Not that this book is childish, but the main character, Ember, is. I understand where she’s coming from and I’m not saying I don’t like this book, just that the general consensus of the book feels kinda MEH for me.
Hold off your horses! Don’t get me wrong!!! I did enjoy this book because I did! But after the Iron Fae trilogy (despite Megan being 16 at the beginning..), and especially after the Immortal Rules, the series game just went higher by maturity a bit. I’m not even talking about any sexual-related mature scenes, but about character kinda thing.
Let’s talk story.
This series is about DRAGONS. If you haven’t picked up that yet from the book cover. Dragons who can shape shift themselves into humans. Long ago, there were a lot of them, but now they’re extinct, and so they go into hiding by posing themselves as humans. When there are dragons, there are..? Dragonslayers, and we can hide their group in the name “Order of St. George”.
Now, our story focuses on twins Ember and Dante Hill, who are not just twins, but the only bro and sis known to their kind! That clues up to thinking they’re special and remarkable. Before they head up to become professional Talon members (Talon is the name of the dragon org), they have this special mission to be immersed in the real world. And Ember will enjoy and cherish every moment left of her teenage years! Then of course everything is not happy cheery yay yay yay all the time. Ember meets a guy… and another guy… both whom are dangerous and forbidden, for the lack of a better word.. And they will turn everything she knows to be true to be completely false!
This book series is good, and despite whatever I said earlier on, I truly did enjoy it. If not, I wouldn’t read the second book! Speaking of, in “Rogue”, everything gets more intense. The heart pounding chase and gut wrenching truths…and possible betrayals will leave you gasping on the floor!
Do I still recommend this book? Yeah!
I also prefer the COVER of the first book, if you ask me. Rich red and more attractive to the eye.
HEADS UP! Third of the 5-book series comes out next APRIL 26, 2016!!!
It’s a CHAINMAIL and there’s BLOOD!
title is ‘SOLDIER’, and I know who it’s talking about!!! lol.
